Doody’s Digital Workshop 2019 offers a strategic view of key challenges facing publishing, education, and even membership executives – how the intellectual property developed by societies can thrive in the complex ecosystem that supplies information to medical professionals. This year’s workshop offers a streamlined one-day format for maximum impact.
The workshop features an opening keynote talk, Search and Serendipity: Content in the Practitioner Workflow, from Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe, Professor/Coordinator for Information Literacy Services and Instruction in the University Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Hinchliffe, a well-known speaker, writer, and blogger, will highlight recent research into how practitioners really access information, providing clues that may improve the discoverability and value of society content.
A panel discussion combines perspectives from an innovative scholarly publisher, a clinician and advocate for society content, and an expert in content repurposing that will provide a wealth of ideas for packaging and presenting content for optimal impact, including revenue growth.
Small-group exercises, always the most popular feature of Doody’s Digital Workshop, will feature cases that will challenge attendees to devise creative strategies to make their content discoverable and useful.
The closing capstone talk, from publishing industry veteran Rich Lampert, covers the parallel development of medicine, medical publishing, and medical societies since the mid-20th Century and then forecasts how professional societies will continue to thrive in the changing healthcare environment.
